Sofware as a Service? – No thanks!

Around the turn of the century, that would be the 21st century, all we ever heard about was ASP – Application Service Provider.

No one was going to have any in house servers anymore, all you needed were some old cheap terminals that could run Citrix or Terminal Server or, hopefully, just a web browser. All of your software and data was going to be stored at your ASP and you would connect via a big broadband pipe.

I said “no thanks” then, and I say it again now.

Why?

I JUST DON’T TRUST OTHER PEOPLE WITH MY (or my client’s) BUSINESS.

And, sure enough, a couple years later when those deals didn’t pan out, the ASP’s just quietly shut their doors after telling their customers to come get their software and data.

And do what with it? They have no hardware, no infrastructure, no technicians or support staff left!

Well, Microsoft is at it again!

They want you to buy their software as a service. Does anything more need to be said after looking at this screenshot?
