With a few exceptions that I would put in the suggestion box, I really do love the NetGear ReadyNAS NV+ product line.
One of those exceptions is that I feel that the standard units that ship with only 256MB RAM are light on memory.
It turns out that they are easily upgradeable to 1GB with an inexpensive memory upgrade from Crucial.com
For your viewing enjoyment I have a short video showing the upgrade process for the ReadyNAS NV+ 1GB memory upgrade.
Upgrade Memory in NetGear ReadyNAS NV+
And as promised, it isn’t a direct link unfortunately, but you can buy the memory by clicking on the link below and doing the search for part #CT12864X40B, description is “CT12864X40B 1GB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR PC3200 memory module”. At this writing it goes for about $75.

Hi ! Just wartched your mem upgrade (which is very nice done). Do you know what’s the maximum memory that NV+ supports ?
Thanks for the video. Did upgrading the RAM make a big difference in the REady NAS NV+? If so how so?
Thanks
It did seem to help a little. Considering the small cost I was happy.
I don’t know what the maximum is but 1GB is affordable – doubt if more would help much.
I will give it a go on my NV+. Purchased via your affiliate link so hopefully you get commission. Cheers and thanks for all the help you provide.
hi, thanks for documenting this! i found the memory part number on ebay 10/1/09 for 49 plus shipping. going to add a couple of disks, and upgrade the memory.
i have two of these nas… one for at home, one for at work, and they sync so i have automatic offsite storage of important files.
thanks for the info

http://www.readynas.com/forum/faq.php#Where_can_I_find_the_ReadyNAS_memory_specification
says :
*ReadyNAS does not support CL=3.0.
*ReadyNAS does not support 1G-bits chip, that means 8-chip 1GB DIMM will not be supported
CT12864X40B is a CL3 eight chip SODIMM. Are you sure this works ?
That’s what shows on my invoice.
However, they have another part number: Crucial CT12864X335 (16-Chip 1GB) (Micron’s MT16VDDF12864H)
that shows up on the NetGear hardware compatibility list:

It’s about the same price, maybe a little less.
