In computer science, the 3 main operating systems are: Windows , OS X and Linux. These operating systems have evolved over time, so there are several versions.
- Windows was created by Microsoft, it is currently the most widespread of 3. The version currently sold is Windows 10 but you may encounter old versions: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP. This system is sold on different brands of computers (Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Sony, Toshiba …)
- macOS (formerly OS X) was developed by Apple. This operating system is only present on computers of the Apple brand (Macintosh). These are easily recognizable thanks to the logo representing an apple. The currently sold version is macOS Sierra, the MacOS High Sierra version is expected to be released in fall 2017.
- Finally, Linux is the least known of the 3 operating systems. It is rarely installed by default on a computer. Free and free, it is mainly used by those who have good computer skills.
Each operating system has its own presentation and ergonomics but above all, it has an impact on the use of software. Indeed, some software can only be used on OS X or Windows. Do not hesitate to inquire if you want to buy a computer.
